About Camp Jened

Jened Recreation Village (JRV) is an outdoor camping and recreation facility located in the Catskill Mountains near Rock Hill, NY. It offers a variety of residential camping or travel options to adults with developmental and physical disabilities including those with moderate to severe disabilities. Over 1,100 guests participate each summer in "short - sensory", "short - social" or "long - social" sessions that are customized to meet their interest and abilities. Social sessions are designed to provide outdoor recreation experiences for individuals with moderate mental retardation to normal intelligence by promoting social, interactive experiences. Sensory sessions are designed for guests with severe to profound mental retardation by emphasizing sensory activities.

Each session at JRV offers an enjoyable, age appropriate, outdoor recreation experience in a safe and non-institutional setting. The camp atmosphere is relaxed, informal and fun loving. Growth through self-awareness is stressed along with active participation in numerous leisure activities such as swimming and aquatic therapy, crafts, music, and sports. Participants may also choose to experience more adventuresome activities such as tent camping, or hiking.

JRV's vacation travel camping program offers a number of summer excursions to historic and vacation attractions on the East Coast. Popular destinations include Washington, D. C., Philadelphia, Atlantic City and Boston. At least one adventure trip is offered each summer for individuals who enjoy tent camping and activities such as river rafting and hiking. Disney and Las Vegas excursions have been very well received.
